Ideas for Your Perfect Head Table!

Your head table is about capturing the BIG moments! It is the focal point of the wedding reception, and it’s the backdrop for the toasts, tears and belly laughs that you and your loved ones will share throughout the celebration. So, my betrothed reader, the table you select for your special day, should reflect your personality as a couple and incorporate different elements such as floral arrangements, candles, and linens that reflect your unique personality and style.

The Sweetheart Table is ideal for the romantic couple that really enjoys the spotlight, but also wants to share in private exchanges throughout the evening. This is your first meal together as a newly married couple and probably the only moment that you can literally take a breath and relax.

It’s important to keep the decor on the Sweetheart table compact so that you and your beloved have room for your place settings, but as the main stars of the evening we want your table to have a lot of impact. A long and low floral with some stunning blooms is the perfect addition to the surface of the table! We love to surround the table with lots of layers, depending on the couple. Some of our couples really like the warmth of candlelight and some really like the magnificence of a towering backdrop. Regardless, the impact of all this detail is stunning!

Head Table and Royal Table

Photography: Your Story Photo + Cinema

Talk about impressive- the Head Table and Royal Table (or King’s Table as it is coloquially known) are two of my favorite style tables because there is so much you can do with the square footage. These tables are perfect for the couple that wants to share the evening with their closest friends and loved ones.

With the Head Table, the wedding party sits along the back of the table. Most of the decor we create for these style tables sits along the front edge of the table. Adding draping, a moon gate or other floral decor to the background is a great way to create dimension and add opulence. To help draw attention to you, the newlywed couple, we like to add a floral showstopper that is nestled right in front of you. Balance the whole thing with candlelight and voila you have a breathtaking masterpiece!

The Royal Table (or King’s Table as it is colloquially known) is similar to the Head Table, but it boasts guests along both sides of the table. Adding tall elements is the perfect way to balance the weight of this table and make sure that your wedding party can converse with their date! Decor on the table should be staggered along the center, so that there is plenty of room for all of the place settings. We love to complete this look with a stunning low centerpiece in front of you and your new spouse, and custom lighting overhead- shoutout to Decorum Events!

Wood, Linen or Acrylic

When it comes to your table, the material you select for your table can be as important as the decor your place on top of it. Acrylic and mirrored tables have risen in popularity in the last few years, because they are incredibly versatile, and come in a lot of colors and styles! If you are looking for something truly unique, a serpentine table- like the one featured below- is a great reimagined version of the Royal Table that we discussed earlier.

Wooden tables are a great option if you are hoping for a fairytale or rustic vibe. Some venues have these tables within their inventory, but if not, we work with a lot of decor companies that have a variety of options. Adding a linen runner is a great way to tie in your wedding colors and soften the boldness of the wood.

Finally, and not so secretly Lisa’s favorite choice for head table material- linens! A gorgeous, designer linen can be the difference between a beautiful table and a stunning table. Picking out a linen might seem a little overwhelming, but we love working with you and your planner to match you with the perfect linen to fit your wedding design!

And if you want to add a little sparkle and flair, consider adding a mirrored runner down the center- it will really up the wow-factor!
