Styled Shoots:Elevating Wedding Design

One of the best parts of being an event florist is turning our clients dreams into reality, but we also love playing with new ideas! Styled Shoots, like the one in this blog, give our lead designers the chance to work with emerging wedding trends, and showcase important elements that you, reader, might consider in your wedding design. This photoshoot was a romantic fever dream from the beautiful brains of our lead designers- Belli Fiori owner, Lisa Molitor, and local goddess, Sandra Fulton! Throughout this blog, I’ll share my thoughts and insights from this shoot, but you will also hear directly from Lisa & Sandra.

As with every event, it’s crucial to understand the tone that you want to set for your special day. Each element is an important building block for communicating to your guests what they can expect. Just look at this invitation suite - each piece of stationary exudes traditional elegance. When designing your dream wedding, it’s important to consider what each element is communicating to your future guests about the occasion. In this case, Lisa & Sandra (Belli Fiori designers) knew the vision was feminine, romantic and opulent, and as you will see, they mirrored this throughout their design choices.

Ceremony

Ceremonies are getting a lot of attention these days, and at Belli Fiori, we are here for it! Your wedding ceremony is the first experience you and your beloved will share with your family and friends. So why not give this monumental moment the attention it deserves and give your guests a glimpse of the magical day to come.

The ceremony backdrop in this wedding shoot was dynamic and grand. Sandra and Lisa chose an open frame structure and utilized an asymmetrical design style that enhanced the existing framing and chandelier within the venue.

A dynamic ceremony backdrop heightens the anticipation for more excitement to come. Asymmetrical design is normally unexpected and visually it makes the entire ceremony area interesting. Your eye doesn't just simply settle on looking at something that the mind perceives as "the norm" but it continues to focus on all of the elements of design thereby creating a novel moment!

In front of the structure, our designers chose to reinvent the ceremony circle complete with lots (and lots) of candles. Because if you know anything about us… when it comes to candles, you can never have too many!

Normally, ceremony circles are placed behind the couple and not incorporated with a structure, but we wanted to take this idea to the next level of event design... and why not!?

Bouquet & FLoral pocket square

As far as duos go, this one gets it! The bouquet and vibrant pocket square are so self-confident and would be perfect for the couple that is ready to show up and show out!

When you are considering what type of bouquet to complete your wedding look, you should always consider the shape and fit of your wedding dress, pant suit or tux.

We chose a horizontal design for this shoot for a few reasons. First it is a wonderful design that combines elements of traditional design with a semi-controlled top, and the carefree edges you might see in a boho bouquet. We wanted this photoshoot to feel romantic, yet airy, and this felt like the right choice to tie in the look with the overall floral design. If you look at the bride’s dress, the freshly-picked feel of this bouquet contrasts beautifully with the fitted bodice, yet mirrors the ease of the off-the shoulder sleeves. The whole look is crisp and carefree.

The floral pocket square is a must-have for me because I am a sucker for a pocket square- like seriously, nothing is more aesthetically pleasing to me than a well placed pocket square- but I need the florals from a boutonniere to pull everything together in photos and videos. The impact is intentional, dapper and stylish!

Head Table - Outdoor

This dinner party style head table is so lovely! A few things you should consider when designing an outdoor reception. First, be flexible. In the midwest, weather changes on a dime, so especially in the spring and fall months- make sure you work with your planner or venue coordinator to have a backup plan that will work either outside or inside with your floral designs.

For your outside table design, keep the designs low, instead of opting for tall arrangements. For this table, we we used a lot of pieces to create a layering effect. This ensured the head table still looked opulent. We also repurposed the floral from the ceremony circle to create a stunning floral skirt for this gorgeous head table.

When the majority of your reception photos are taken at the head table, you should opt for drama here!  Especially, if you are outside because your wedding florals are competing with Mother Nature!  Your guest tables can be more simplistic, but don't skimp on the head table.

Head Table - Indoor

Now I know some of you are here for the country-chic, farmhouse fairytale, so I think you’ll like this head table! The table holds a lot of visual weight with its dark wood and heavy appearance. Lisa and Sandra’s goal was to balance the weight of the table by keeping the decor on the table dainty and adding large floral urns on either side of the table. I think they nailed it!

We wanted to frame the head table with two breathtaking pieces, and what better way than a glorious pop of pink, and tulips water-falling from the base of each arrangement! Depending on the time of year, these urns could house any number of seasonal blooms, but because this shoot was in April, we wanted to usher in the start of spring.

There are a hundred ways to iterate on a single look. Even the designs in this blog can evolve depending on the style, time of year and tone of your celebration! If you are interested in elevating your wedding day, choose a couple of areas that will create a large visual impact, and work closely with a team of experienced designers to bring your vision to life. And don’t be afraid to be bold- these are the wow moments that will live with you and your beloved for years to come!
