Wedding Planning: Floral Details

“There is no magic in magic, it’s all in the details.”

– Walt Disney

Let’s talk details. While I’m sure Walt was talking about movies or theme parks when he made the statement above, it absolutely rings true when it comes to the event industry! Weddings are a production, and it’s the little details that can bring the day together and result in a magical experience and memories you’ll treasure for years to come. Today we’re highlighting the floral details that add that little extra something to your wedding, from styling blooms to cake flowers and everything in between!

Most of our clients have only envisioned the big picture when they start the planning process: color palette, the dress and maybe bouquet for example. And while these are important elements to start the design process, it’s the little details that come into play later in the planning that really tie everything together.

Styling Blooms

Let’s start at the very beginning of the wedding day, with a little detail that is often forgotten: styling blooms! If your photographer plans to take details shots of your stationery, rings, shoes and other accessories, styling blooms are a great way to elevate these photos. But don’t let this be an afterthought and email the week of the wedding requesting “extras”! Especially right now with the flower shortage, florist are keeping their orders tight and are often using all the product they get in for an event. We now ask our clients if their photographer would like styling blooms before we place the final flower order so we can ensure there are plenty of closeup-worthy blooms the day of the wedding! And while it might seem like a small thing, just check out the impact that flowers and greenery can have on detail shots…

When it comes to photographing paper goods, flowers and greenery (and the occasional lemon) can really make invitation suites pop! It’s so much fun to see how photographers style their flat lays depending on the style and vibe of the day.

Another fun place we often see photographers use styling blooms is for detail shots of the wedding rings, shoes and other bridal accessories! Why just take a photo of a ring when you could take a photo of a ring surrounded by flowers?!

Reception Entrance

Welcome guests to the party and set the tone for the evening by dressing up your reception entrance! From romantic draping to custom signage, we love to draw guests into the reception with beautiful flowers and a taste of what’s to come.

McKenna & Adam welcomed guests into their reception at The Coronado with champagne and lush floral displays. The cocktail hour space offered guests a sneak peek at the drama that was awaiting them in the ballroom and set the perfect tone for the evening! (Check out our post about their unforgettable wedding to see all details!)

Escort Displays

Escort card tables or signs might a reception necessity, they don’t have to be utilitarian! We love helping our clients come up with beautiful and creative ways to direct guests to their seats - but don’t feel like you have to go over-the-top to make a statement! A beautiful floral arrangement or perfectly placed greenery can add just the right touch to your escort card display. No matter your style, we can create a display that perfectly compliments your vision.

Place Settings

If you’re looking for a way to enhance your tabletop design, place settings are a perfect opportunity for a little extra detail. A custom menu card and colorful napkin can go a long way, but adding greenery sprigs can be that extra touch that brings the look to life.

If you really want to elevate your place settings, why not treat each guest to an individual floral arrangement?! While not practical for large events, this is a great option for intimate dinners, or the perfect way to add drama a head table!

Cake Flowers

The wedding cake is typically front and center when guests enter a reception space, often placed in the middle of the dance floor or near the head table, so it’s not surprising that so many of our clients choose to decorate their cakes with fresh flowers! From simple floral accents to show-stopping towers and cascades, we’ve done it all. If you’re envisioning fresh blooms on your wedding cake it’s important to discuss the design with your baker and florist well in advance, especially if the design is complicated! There are often logistics we have to work out with the bakery, and we’ll need to ensure we order plenty of material.

As you can see, it’s the details that help us create wedding day magic for our clients. No matter your vision or style, don’t overlook floral details, because they add up to BIG impact!

Thank you to our photographer friends for always capturing all the little details for our clients!!
