A Timeless Summer Wedding at the Saint Louis Art Museum

Classic. Timeless. Elegant. These are all words that so many couples aim for when designing their wedding day, but in the age of Pinterest, it’s often easy to get distracted by the wedding trend of the moment. Today we’re chatting with Belli Fiori Bride Sara, who was able to achieve that perfectly classic wedding style so many couples strive for, while still including a few carefully chosen modern trends.

Sara and Neil were married last June in a beautiful ceremony at Our Lady of Lourdes church, followed by a reception at the iconic Saint Louis Art Museum. With it’s soaring ceilings and grand architecture, the museum’s Sculpture Hall is both an inspiring and intimidating space in which to create an event. Sara envisioned tall flowering branch centerpieces, which proved to be the perfect element to fill the immense space. These tall arrangements were alternated with medium-height floating candles and low floral, which rounded out the elegant feel of the room and provided the perfect setting for Sara and Neil to celebrate with their family and friends.

Kim: How would you describe your wedding style?

Sara: My goal for the wedding style was to keep it classic, timeless, and elegant with modern details sprinkled throughout.

Kim: You definitely achieved your goal! I love your wedding design for it’s classic simplicity; everything felt purposeful. And I’m a sucker for a peony bouquet!

K: What were the most important elements of the day for you and Neil as you were planning?

S: The most important element for both of us was making sure the ceremony was well thought out and meaningful. We picked out all of the readings, prayers, and songs together in an effort to make sure that each one would have a lasting effect when we looked back on our wedding day.

K: What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

S: My favorite moment was walking down the aisle. Neil and I did not do a first look, so when we saw each other it was an overwhelming wave of emotion. It was very surreal!

K: You had a very elegant, timeless wedding style – was this always your vision or did it evolve throughout the planning process?

S: This was always my vision. Classic and timeless is always the way to go in my opinion. I wanted to be able to look back at my wedding in 10-20 years and still think it is beautiful.

K: What was your favorite floral element of the day?

S: I can’t chose so I’m going to include two favorites! I absolutely loved the arrangements at my rehearsal dinner. We were able to re-purpose these arrangements for the morning of getting ready in the wedding party suites. They were such a fun pop of color! I also loved the tall centerpieces on the guest tables at the reception. They were stunning and the perfect proportion to match the room.

K: How did the reality of your reception design live up to your vision and expectations?

S: My vision and expectations were made a reality and I could not have been happier with the way everything came together. It was such a magical day that will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life!

K: Why did you choose Belli Fiori as your wedding florist?

S: I chose Belli Fiori because after my initial meeting with the owner, Lisa, I felt we clicked and she understood my vision. Lisa was not only extremely helpful with floral design but she also helped me with the table design concept. She went above and beyond to help me decide on table linens, napkins, chargers, specialty linens, table arrangements, etc. She could see my vision and had the same excitement about it that I did. She is the best!

K: Do you have any advice for couples that are just starting the planning process?

S: Do what makes YOU happy! At the end of the day that's all that really matters.

Sara, thank you SO much for taking the time to chat, and to you and Neil for entrusting Belli Fiori with your wedding vision! It was such a pleasure to be a part of your day and we are so glad we could bring your vision to life!
