How to Choose your Wedding Colors – Part I

I love working with brides and helping them choose their wedding colors. Some brides have one color that they want to use but need help in choosing accent colors…others come in with absolutely no idea what colors they would like to incorporate. So, here is a quick guide of choosing colors.

Bridesmaids Dresses and Bouquet Colors

I wish I could talk to every bride before she chooses her bridesmaids dresses. My biggest piece of advice…go with a neutral color palette for the dresses and it will open the door to a lot of color combinations for bouquets. Neutral colors can include black, navy, dark brown, silvery gray, champagne, etc. If you choose a neutral dresses, the flowers will really “pop” when you look at your pictures after the big day.

If you do decide to go with a colorful dresses, keep this in mind when finding the perfect dress for your bridesmaids: the bouquets should not be the same color as the dresses. For example, a bride wants to incorporate only purple in the wedding colors…purple dresses, purple flowers, etc. I would recommend that she choose flowers that incorporate other colors to create some contrast between the dress and the bouquets. Some great colors for flowers that will really “pop” against purple dresses include reds, oranges and even pinks.

If the dresses are a dark color, then use flowers that are lighter or brighter. If the dresses are a light color, then use flowers that are darker hue.
